Danny Alexander was appointed as Liberal Democrat Shadow Secretary of State for Work and Pensions in July of this year. Since 2005, he had been working as a junior spokesperson alongside his predecessor, David Laws MP, to develop the party's approach to pensions policy, as well as urgently needed reform of the Tax Credit system and the Child Support Agency. He has also served as the Liberal Democrats' main spokesperson for disability issues, taking a strong interest in reform of Incapacity Benefit and improving access to work. Danny graduated from Oxford University with Honours in Politics, Philosophy and Economics. After a period working as a press officer for the Scottish Liberal Democrats, he became Director of Communications at the European Movement in 1996 and then - following its creation in 1999 -at Britain in Europe. In 2004, he became Head of Communications for the newly formed Cairngorms National Park Authority. On 5th May 2005, he contested and won the newly created Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch & Strathspey parliamentary constituency.
