The Professional Pensions Show 2007
Why should you attend?
The eighth Professional Pensions Show features a Pensions Question Time debate which will include Pensions Reform Minister Mike O'Brien and his opposite numbers on the opposition benches, Nigel Waterson from the Conservatives and Danny Alexander of the Liberal Democrats. They will be joined by representations from the TUC, CBI and the NAPF.
There will also be keynote speeches from Head of the CBI's Skills, Pensions and Employment Group, Neil Carberry, The Pensions Regulator's Chief Executive Tony Hobman and Paul Thornton who has recently released an independent review for the Government on pension regulation. And over the course of the two-day show, all the key issues affecting trustees will be examined.
For example, many sponsors and trustee boards will agree that final salary schemes, in their current form are unsustainable and that contribution rates in DC schemes are currently at an undesirable level. But, as the debate continues to rage over the future of UK pensions, one factor that remains steadfast is the quest to provide stability and confidence for members. Although, given the headlines over recent months, many could be forgiven for questioning whether the prime minister, Gordon Brown, and the present Government are working to the same agenda.
And following the announcement of the government's plans to enroll millions of workers in a national pension savings scheme by 2012, concern is now turning to the question of whether ministers risk undermining existing occupational retirement plans.
This year's event promises to be a very exciting one. Building on previous years' success, it is moving away from themed days to a series of plenary and slightly longer concurrent streams over the two days. We feel this will give delegates a wider choice of topics and encourage them to attend sessions they may have missed in the past. We are also presenting a number of case studies including MG Rover entering the Pension Protection Fund, an emotive discussion on enhanced transfer values and are also staging the unique trial of a fictitious finance director.
We have again tried to carefully listen to feedback from last year and are confident that, as the programme evolves through to November, it will definitely be our strongest yet.
